Workshop Agenda

Six university and civil society groups will host a meeting on Tuesday with government officials and stakeholders in South Africa on their newly released copyright amendment bill. The event will be held  at The Innovation Hub on Mark Shuttleworth Street, Pretoria.

This will be a unique meeting in that we will strive to organize it to facilitate discussion by all of the approximately 50 participants invited. Most of the meeting will be facilitated in an open roundtable format in which various segments of stakeholders and of government are invited to participate in discussion of the bill’s impacts in South Africa, especially on consumers, small producers (such as independent and documentary filmmakers), libraries, educators, people with disabilities and the general public interest.

For more information, please see the following documents:

The organizers and sponsors of this event are the University of Cape Town Intellectual Property Unit, the University of South Africa Intellectual Property Flagship, the University of the Witwatersand Library, the American University Washington College of Law Program on Information Justice and Intellectual Property, Creative Commons South Africa, and the Cultural Industries Legal and Advisory Centre.
