Jayashree Watal will speak on finding the right balance in global policy between protecting patent rights and promoting access to medicines for all. Ms. Watal is the former lead negotiator for India on the World Trade Organization Agreement on Trade Related Intellectual Property Rights. She recently published a book on the negotiation of the TRIPS agreement. She has more than twenty two years of experience in government in India, of which ten years was devoted to policy, diplomacy, research and administration on intellectual property rights. She has researched and published on issues related to intellectual property rights, including a book Intellectual Property Rights in the WTO and Developing Countries (Oxford University Press, India and Kluwer Law International, 2001).
