Second Generation Antiretroviral Therapies
While the price for many antiretroviral therapies has plumeted over the last decade, the price of second generation antiretrovirals remains prohibitively high for many in the global South. These include second-line therapies, which usually include protease inhibitorsm and must be taken after a person taking antiretrovirals develops resistance to the first-line therapy. Additionally, second generation therapies include first-line therapies recommended by WHO that include newer, less toxic medicines.
